Ian Lyle - Chair

Mr Lyle has changed his role as 2D's treasurer to replace Brian Myers as the new Chair. Ian has been a volunteer with 2D for 8 years, first coming to us wanting to do something in his spare time. He was placed at Signpost giving information and advice to the general public. Ian joined the board as volunteer representative shortly after.

"Discovering volunteering has enhanced my whole family's life, giving me a purpose and a great deal of job satisfaction to be able to help my local community. Without the support of 2D and it's fantastic staff my volunteering experience would not have been as fulfilling."

As the new chair of 2D Ian is eager to play a proactive role to help continue and improve the services 2D provides to both districts and the wider community.

Mr Peter Irving - Treasurer

Mr Irving has been involved with 2D for the previous 7 years. He was attracted to volunteering work for various reasons including:

  • An opportunity to represent the local community
  • To gain contacts with service delivery and funding operatives in the local area
  • Access to training opportunities
  • The ability to raise questions with relevant organisations concerning issues and questions in the community
  • To positively influence and sustain local community groups

Mr Irving is a retired Royal Mail Manager and has closely worked with the community through out his career. He has experience as a Chairman for Billy Row Community Association, Hill Top Villages Partnership and Leader Plus Durham Local Area Group. He has been involved with various funding organisations such as Leader Plus, Durham County Foundation and SRB Community Funding.

"I regularly attend meetings and am able to give a constructive opinion and express myself appropriately in large meetings. I feel I am approachable and able to listen to arguments."

Steve Raine

Mr Raine has been involved with 2D for over 3 years and was particularly interested in joining the board because of his interests in volunteering and fund raising.

He is currently the Managing Director of Weardale Railways Ltd, a non-for-profit organisation soon changing to a Community Interest company. His position within the organisation is voluntary based.

His business experience as a Director of various IT related companies and writing of business plans meant he was a asset with the development of 2D's business plan.
